In a recent interview, Dalton reflected on her journey into coaching, highlighting the pivotal moments that shaped her decision to transition from player to mentor. "I was inspired to become a cricket coach during my teaching degree," she shared. "I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, and cricket was a passion of mine. Coaching girls at my very first session showed me the impact I could have. I wanted to inspire and empower women and girls through cricket.”

Dalton's commitment to empowering women in cricket extends beyond the coaching field. As she delved into the unique challenges faced by female cricket players, she emphasised the importance of addressing issues such as funding and exposure. "One of the unique challenges is the lack of funding," Dalton explained. "But we've seen improvements recently. The exposure brought by events like the Hundred has been positive, but there's still work to do. Overcoming these challenges requires more investment, exposure, and support for women's cricket.”

Creating an inclusive and supportive environment for female players lies at the heart of Dalton's coaching philosophy. "I aim for inclusivity and support for everyone," she emphasised. "It's crucial that everyone feels welcomed and valued. I adapt coaching to each player's ability level, provide feedback carefully, and set standards. Being a role model and fostering open communication are key to building trust and rapport.”

For Dalton, the most rewarding aspects of coaching women and girls in cricket are the moments of progress and camaraderie. "Every session brings rewards," she shared. "Whether it's seeing players progress or witnessing their enjoyment and camaraderie. Seeing players achieve what they didn't think possible is incredibly gratifying. Cricket is more than a sport; it builds friendships and character.”

Looking ahead, Dalton envisions a bright future for women's cricket, driven by increased investment and awareness. "I believe women's cricket has a bright future with the return of professional counties and increased awareness," she expressed optimistically. "I hope to continue breaking barriers and setting standards, both as a coach and a player. My goal is for women's cricket to thrive without needing to break barriers anymore.”

Dalton's recent appointment as a fast bowling coach in the Pakistan Super League marks a historic milestone in her career, underscoring her relentless pursuit of inclusivity and excellence in cricket coaching. As she continues to inspire and empower generations of female cricketers, Cath Dalton remains a shining example of resilience, determination, and innovation in the world of cricket.
